SHAKESPEARE GOES TO THE OPERA. The Opera Guild of Southern Arizona will hold its annual benefit gala of dinner and music beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, at the University Park Marriott Hotel, 880 E. Second St. Enjoy a full dinner while listening to Shakespeare-inspired operas performed by OGSA singers. Tickets are $35, and reservations are required by January 4. AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT. The Arizona Repertory Singers is holding auditions for a few good men to round out their 1998 chorus. Auditions will be held Tuesday evenings, January 6, 13 and 20, and are open to tenors and basses with choral experience who can read music. The choir rehearses Tuesdays from August through May and performs approximately 15 concerts per year. The next concert is February 2, performing Ross Edwards' "Flower Songs" as part of The University of Arizona's Faculty Artist Series. Call 529-1502 to schedule an audition.

CHAMBER MUSIC WEEKEND. Amateur string players are invited to register for TAASPA's eighth annual Chamber Music Weekend, Friday through Sunday, January 9 through 11.
