LETTER FROM THE EDITOR:
here were many small battles that set the stage for the Civil Rights movement of the '50s and '60s, among them the Missouri sharecropper protest of 1939, the subject of a new documentary film, Oh Freedom After While.
Chicken is the fastest growing substitute for beef, which many Americans are cutting from their diets. To meet demand, factories are increasing their productivity -- by any means necessary.
An apéritif is a fragrant blend of wine, spirits and a tantalizing array of exotic spices, roots, barks, herbs, buds and flowers intended to function as a pre-dinner drink. The object is to "open up" the taste buds and to stimulate the appetite.
Every day, someone comes up with another completely useless application for a computer. It's got nothing to do with increasing efficiency, and everything to do with wasting all that extra time we now have thanks to today's superfast computers.
